Alexander Vindman Issues Election Eve Anti-GOP Rallying Cry

Ret. Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman is continuing to encourage Americans to vote (for the Democrats) in this year’s midterm elections.

Among other areas of concern, Vindman has remained among the more prominent voices rallying support for Ukraine amid the country’s ongoing war with Russia, although there are obviously a lot of people overall who are doing such a thing, in general terms. Under Republicans, U.S. aid for Ukraine could be threatened. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who could become Speaker of the House if Republicans win the chamber, has already undercut the idea of a Congress led in whole or in part by the GOP providing additional assistance for the country. “I’m very supportive of Ukraine,” McCarthy recently stated. “I think there has to be accountability going forward… You always need, not a blank check, but make sure the resources are going to where it is needed. And make sure Congress, and the Senate, have the ability to debate it openly.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), whose profile will probably increase if Republicans retake the House, including with spots on committees, has been more direct. “Under Republicans, not another penny will go to Ukraine,” she said at a recent Trump rally, drawing cheers from her listeners. McCarthy’s approach of appeasing both sides might not hold. He has already folded on key issues, whether that’s his sudden turnaround on Trump after last year’s Capitol riot or his support for challenges to Biden’s electoral votes despite the lack of real-world evidence for systematic fraud.

“Ask yourself, “have you saved democracy… have you voted”? #vote,” Vindman posted on Twitter on Monday. Tens of millions of Americans have participated in early voting, with overall turnout — and the Democratic share of that turnout — surging in the highly watched state of Georgia, where voters are deciding on key races including a contest for Senate.

Former President Barack Obama has campaigned in half a dozen swing states as Election Day has approached, including Pennsylvania, where Democrat John Fetterman and Republican Mehmet Oz, aka Dr. Oz, are approaching the end of a Senate contest in which polling suddenly became very close in recent weeks. President Joe Biden also campaigned for Fetterman and other Democrats in Pennsylvania, where he recounted some of the successes of his administration and some of what’s possible if Democrats are successful in the midterms and add to their legislative control. Among other points of contention, Democrats holding onto Congress could mean new protections for abortion at the federal level — and if control shifts to the Republicans, they’ll likely be passing new restrictions. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) already proposed a 15-week ban. President Joe Biden obviously wouldn’t sign such a thing… suggesting the legislative gears would largely wind to a halt.
