Texans Boo & Flip Off Ted Cruz At Houston Astros Victory Parade

Texans apparently weren’t thrilled with the presence of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) at a parade in Houston celebrating the recent win by the Houston Astros in the World Series.

“Loud boos and middle fingers for Ted Cruz,” Ben DuBose, a sports reporter, shared from the scene. Biden won Harris County, in which Houston is situated, by some 13 percentage points during the 2020 presidential election, passing an overall majority of the local vote despite his loss in the state as a whole. An account identifying its owner as from Houston shared footage of some of the boos — and they’re pretty loud. Cruz was waving at bystanders from an open portion of a vehicle as the crowd loudly jeered. Individuals showing the Senator their middle fingers were towards the front of the parade route, so — unless those sunglasses he was wearing were opaque — he could probably see them, although he didn’t seem to really react.

Perhaps he got some advice from someone on his team to chill out. Whether it was a confrontation in a restaurant, on an airplane, or at an event put on by The Texas Tribune, the Senator has recently seemed overly eager to antagonize those daring to challenge him. Another account promoting support for Democratic candidate for governor Beto O’Rourke, who’s challenging incumbent Texas Republican Greg Abbott in this year’s elections, also posted a video of the boos this Monday. Check out footage below:

This Monday actually wasn’t the first time when the widely disliked Cruz, who Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) once infamously quipped could be killed on the floor of the Senate without anybody in the chamber really caring (Graham walked that back), faced boos from sports fans. In the lead-up to the World Series, attendees also jeered at Cruz during a game in New York City between the Astros and the New York Yankees. “Fuck you, you racist piece of shit!” someone shouted in a clip from the game. Fellow attendees near the Senator also raised middle fingers and a thumbs down. Cruz isn’t on the ballot this year. He has two years left in the Senate term he most recently won, but he is among those who might run for president (in his case, again) at some point, although he doesn’t seem overly popular. Womp womp.
