Another Critical Trump Ally Abandons Him After GOP Midterm Flop

Winsome Sears, the Republican who is currently serving as lieutenant governor in Virginia and previously led a super PAC that has supported Trump and other Republican candidates, said during a new appearance on Fox that she would be opposed to the prospect of Trump running for president for a third time in a row.

Among other issues, Sears pointed to the relative lack of success for key blocs of Trump’s chosen candidates in this past week’s midterm elections. Trump-supported candidates for governor in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan all lost, as did several Trump-supported picks for Senate in states including Arizona. According to any reasonable estimation, there was no “red wave” in the midterm elections. “The voters have spoken, and they have said that they want a different leader,” Sears said. “And a true leader understands when they have become a liability. A true leader understands that it’s time to step off the stage, and the voters have given us that very clear message. Because this is about America.”

Asked about whether her comments applied to Trump, Sears replied in the affirmative: “Yes, a house divided against itself cannot stand, and indeed, that’s where we are today. And as I said before, America is the prize. Why do we want to win elections? It’s because we’ve got to learn to love each other, live together, govern together, and the voters are saying, enough is enough.” Questioned in a follow-up about how she would respond to Trump announcing a run for president, which he is expected to do in the near future, Sears indicated she would not support such a campaign. “I could not support him,” she said. “I just couldn’t, because we have seen for example in those states where he has endorsed the candidates, in fact, Republicans on the same ticket, who he did not endorse, over-performed, whereas his candidates totally under-perform by as much as ten points! We have a clear mission, and it is time to move on.”

Trump has already been raging about speculation regarding Florida Republican Governor Ron Desantis potentially unveiling a presidential bid. Sears’s comments only add more to the list of excuses from which Trump can draw for his angry rally speeches and screeds on Truth Social. Watch below:
