Secretary Hillary Clinton tweeted out her opposition to gun violence after a second mass attack with a gun in one week. Six people died in a Chesapeake, Virginia Walmart Tuesday night, killed by a disgruntled employee. Clinton called for change.
Although tragic, it is not unusual for a person considering a mass attack to be spurred into murderous action by another attack. The Colorado Springs shooting in an LGBTQ+ club killed five people and hurt another 19 others over the weekend.
The Walmart shooting occurred just before closing Tuesday night. The employee fired into the crowded store filled with last-minute shoppers. The shooter killed four people and injured another six before taking his own life by means of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive is still unknown.
The former first lady urged action on gun laws to prevent “regular mass slaughter:”
‘Yet another morning with more families grieving loved ones lost to gun violence. Because this cannot continue—we cannot continue as a nation defined by regular mass slaughter—our laws must change and we must change.’

In 2022 thus far, there have been at least 604 mass shooting, according to The Business Insider. President Joe Biden released a statement after the Colorado Springs shooting:
‘Yet another community in America has been torn apart by gun violence. More families left with an empty chair at the table and hole in their lives that cannot be filled. When will we decide we’ve had enough? We must address the public health epidemic of gun violence in all of its forms.’
The nonprofit Gun Violence Archive, tracks shootings:
‘The US has recorded at least 604 mass shootings in 2022 so far. Gun violence overall has killed nearly 40,000 people in the US this year so far, according to the Archive’s records.’
