Adam Schiff Rips Trump For Call To Abolish Constitution

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) joined those condemning former President Trump for pushing the prospect of suspending electoral rules in the Constitution because of supposed fraud — which still hasn’t magically appeared years after the first time Trump started claiming he was fraudulently denied a win in 2020.

“Trump called for the constitution to be suspended so he can be installed as president,” Schiff wrote on Twitter Sunday. “So-called “constitutional conservatives” are silent. Again. I guess a “constitutional conservative” is one who is conservative in their support for the constitution … when it’s inconvenient.” Imagine the kind of Republican outrage that would erupt if someone in an even mildly prominent position on the Left called in explicit terms for suspending the Constitution in whole or in part.

One of the latest points of outrage for those on Donald’s side is the temporary suppression prior to the 2020 election on Twitter of news reporting related to files obtained without consent from Hunter Biden, a son of the current president, as the story goes. In practical terms, that suppression didn’t last long, and outside of Twitter and other social channels where the story was temporarily pushed back upon, the coverage still spread far. There’s also just no evidence that the coverage would have somehow changed hundreds of thousands of Americans’ perceptions about Biden and altered the election outcome.

“A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” Trump recently claimed on Truth Social. Trump has also complained about supposed collusion on the Hunter Biden story between the FBI and Facebook, where the coverage was also temporarily suppressed — but there is no apparent evidence that the federal law enforcement agency provided Facebook with any specific directives or warnings related to the Biden coverage, only broader discussions of potential foreign info operations.

Trump has repeatedly called — this year — for undoing the 2020 election results either through direct action to recognize him as president or a new election. He directly pressured a state legislative leader in Wisconsin to that effect after a state Supreme Court ruling restricting the usage of drop boxes for mail-in ballots, and that official — Robin Vos — recently provided information about his communications with the former president to the House panel investigating January 6, which is in the midst of preparing its final report. Donald has also joined the fight against parts of the election results this year, clamoring for action in Arizona, where several Republican candidates aligned with him were defeated. These pushes have been unsuccessful. The certification process for results has continued moving forward, and multiple lawsuits directly seeking to undo the reported results were already dismissed.
