Election Betting Odds looks at the odds from typical betting markets to come up with its numbers in political races. And Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) is set to win in his runoff race against Herschel Walker (R), according to the site. Conservatives Maxim Lott and John Stossel run Election Betting Odds and came out in favor of the reverend and sitting senator. The two men’s site indicated that Warnock was winning in a virtual flood of votes and with only one day to go before the Tuesday run-off election.
Although Senator Warnock won in the midterm election with under one percent, he did not meet the state-required margin of over 50 percent. That was why Georgia law required the runoff election. A record number of Georgians voted that midterm day, 300,000.
But Election Betting Odds only gave Warnock a 1.4 lead over Walker. Some of the other forecasters showed Warnock winning by greater odds. Polymarket and PredicIt had the Democratic senator at 89 percent. Smarkets gave the senator 92.6 percent versus Walker’s 8.3 percent.
However, the recent Emerson College and The Hill Poll showed Warnock ahead of Walker by two percentage points. Then, there was a CNN Poll that came out Friday showing Warnock leading by a full four percentage points.
Democrats usually do well in races with significant early voter turnout. And the 2022 midterm race picked up additional votes after church on Sunday with a “Souls to the Polls” campaign. Another advantage for Warnock was his huge fundraising chest of donations.
The CNN Poll saw voters supporting their Republican Party rather than the candidate Herschel Walker:
‘CNN’s survey noted that 47 percent of likely voters who support Walker said they were casting their ballots for the Republican out of opposition to Warnock rather than support for their chosen candidate.’
Among those who supported Walker, the CNN Poll indicated:
‘On the other hand, 83 percent of likely voters who support Warnock said the main factor in their Senate vote was support for the Democrat — which tends to be a stronger indicator of motivation to vote.’
‘Though popular Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) has campaigned for Walker for the first time ahead of the runoff, the governor won’t be on the ballot, which is seen as a handicap for Walker.’
Both President Joe Biden (D) and candidate Donald Trump (R) stayed far away from the runoff election. Just one strong advantage of Warnock winning is that Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) will loosen their vise-like grip on the party.
A Warnock win might also foretell of a Trump loss in 2024.
