Special counsel Jack Smith has sent Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger a subpoena.
On January 2 Raffensperger got an extended call from DonaldTrump telling the secretary of state to “find” enough votes to give Trump even one more vote than President Joe Biden, according to The Washington Post. Smith has requested documents, but the secretary of state received no notice to appear in person, at least at this point in the investigation.

This sort of illegal presidential activity occurred in more than one swing state. The difference was that Raffensperger was wise enough to tape the phone call. Trump pulled “similar stunts in other swing states:”

‘Special Counsel Smith was after “any and all communications in any from” between June 1, 2020, and Jan. 20, 2021, “to, from or involving” Trump, his campaign, lawyers and aides, including former campaign officials such as Bill Stepien and Justin Clark and lawyers John Eastman, Boris Epshteyn, L. Lin Wood, Sidney Powell and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, according to the subpoena, which was obtained by The Associated Press.’

On a parallel track, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis opened an investigation into Trump’s activities to subvert the 2020 presidential election. The Atlanta DA has seated a grand jury and is well into her investigation. She has interviewed dozens of witnesses reaching well into the ex-president’s top circle of friends and advisers, Reuters reported:

‘A special grand jury seated to aid that investigation has heard from dozens of witnesses, including a number of high-profile Trump allies, over the past six months and is expected to wrap up its work soon.’

Willis was also interested in investigating the January 2 phone call between Trump and Raffensperger. At this time, we do not know whether additional Georgian counties were involved. Just weeks into the 2020 election, Trump elected to bully his way into the presidency.

After Trump lost his bid for president, he went after Fulton County, which included the greatest portion of Atlanta. But thus far, the county itself has escaped being subpoenaed.

The other investigation was into the former president’s theft of hundreds and hundreds of documents meant for the National Library of Congress. At least 100 of the files were labeled “top secret” or even higher.
