Pushing the Big Lie – the lie about Donald Trump having actually won the 2020 presidential election that he lost by around five million votes but it was stolen from him by Democrats, Republican secretaries of state, voting officials, poll workers, a vote tabulating machine company, Italy, and a long-dead president of Venezuela – didn’t only happen on television and Twitter. It also played out in court with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani at the center.

Now, during a hearing about Giuliani’s absurd and frivolous lawsuits about matters which he knew to be false (when asked later about those lawsuits and his knowledge that no votes were stolen from Trump, Giuliani insisted it was true because of the Dinesh D’Souza move 2000 Mules). For those lawsuits, the D.C. Bar has called for Giuliani’s disbarment. Other lawyers involved have been sanctioned, but Giuliani insists he did nothing wrong.
Members of the bar disagree. According to The Washington Post:
‘Hamilton “Phil” Fox III, the lead prosecuting attorney for the D.C. Bar’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel, told the board that Giuliani’s conduct “calls for only one sanction, and that’s the sanction of disbarment. What Mr. Giuliani did was use his law license to undermine the legitimacy of a presidential election, to undermine the basic premise of the democratic system that we all live in, that has been in place since the 1800s in this country,” Fox said.’
Giuliani blamed the other lawyers for his actions, insisting that they wrote the inflammatory language he used in public and in courtrooms. He also admitted that he had no proof that what he was saying was true, telling members in the hearing that he expected the actual evidence to show up during discovery.
