The former Republican candidate for governor of Arizona, Kari Lake, sued her opponent Governor-elect Katie Hobbs (D) taking a page from Donald Trump. The former TV personality claimed voter fraud, but without any proof. So Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson dismissed the majority of her lawsuit, according to CNN.

Lake wanted the judge to halt Hobb’s certified win, claiming that Maricopa County election officials wrongly counted hundreds of thousands of illegal voting ballots. Maricopa County is the largest in Arizona. The losing Republican alleged a total of 10 counts of misconduct.

Judge Thompson dismissed 80 percent of the counts, indicating that eight of 10 counts did not meet the criteria for bringing election challenges per Arizona state law. So it did not matter whether the charges were accurate.

However, the judge did allow the trial to continue on the two remaining charges. Lake’s attorneys could attempt to prove intentional interference by the officials in regard to the ballot printers and the chain of custody. The trial was set for later this week.

Donald Trump endorsed Lake, and she was one of his numerous failed candidates. The former gubernatorial candidate ran partially on alleged presidential 2020 election voter fraud. And like her mentor, the former candidate transformed the loss into a “win” on Twitter:

‘Our Election Case is going to trial. Katie Hobbs attempt to have our case thrown out FAILED. She will have to take the stand & testify. Buckle up, America. This is far from over.’

The governor-elect’s attorneys claimed that the former television personality’s arguments were without substance and would fail in trial. At the hearing, one of Hobbs’ attorneys said:

‘If there’s anything rotten in Arizona, it is what this contest represents. For the past several years, our democracy and its basic guiding principles have been under sustained assault from candidates who just cannot or will not accept the fact that they lost. The judiciary has served as a bulwark against these efforts to undo our democratic system from within.’

Judge Thompson referred to the first of the two remaining counts:

‘Plaintiff must show at trial that the [Election Day] printer malfunctions were intentional, and directed to affect the results of the election, and that such actions did actually affect the outcome.’

The attorney for Lake made a reference to the dystopian novel by George Orwell, 1984:

‘This case is also about a secret censorship operation set up by the government that would make Orwell blush.’

In addition, the former Republican candidate contended that over 300,000 Maricopa County voting ballots were missing the correct chain of custody, NBC reported.

A state attorney general candidate Abe Hamadeh (R) was only 511 votes behind his opponent in a 2.5 million-ballot race. He also contested the results of his race. But Hamadeh will likely qualify for an automatic recount.
