Three of the individuals who served as members of the electoral college in Michigan supporting Biden after the 2020 presidential race — in line with that year’s results from the state’s popular vote, which showed a Biden win — have filed a civil lawsuit against the individuals who signed on as purported Trump electors representing the state that year.

Besides financial penalties, those behind the new suit are also seeking a judicial declaration those who signed on as supposed Trump electors in Michigan broke the law. The plaintiffs connected their claims to personal impacts they have suffered to their reputation and the like from the pro-Trump plot. “Plaintiffs suffered humiliation, mental anguish, and stress as a result of being cast in the false light created by defendants’ election fraud and lies,” the case said. The filing also noted how the efforts undertaken by the purported Trump electors specifically ended up making the actual electoral college members from Michigan that year seem themselves potentially criminal for theoretically casting inappropriate electoral college votes. It suggested the actual electoral college members “were invalid and illegitimate, at best, or fraudulent and criminal, at worst” and “fueled widespread disinformation and confusion about the outcome of the election.”

The lawsuit also called targets’ disputed actions “traitorous.” “Our hope is to remedy, as requested in our complaint, the damage caused by the spurious electors, deter them from engaging in election fraud again, and to send a message to any would-be future usurper to elected office that our nation is stronger than any individual or warped understanding of its principles,” Blake Mazurek, a 2020 member of the electoral college for Michigan who’s among the plaintiffs, said Thursday. “We look forward to presenting our case and look for justice to be served.”

State Attorney General Dana Nessel, who was recently re-elected in last year’s midterm elections alongside other Dems holding key statewide positions in Michigan, stated as the nation faced the second anniversary of the January 6 attack on the Capitol that she would be reopening her own probe into the individuals who claimed to be Trump electors. The docs from Michigan that outlined their false claims, which mirrored materials prepared in other contested states, even falsely claimed the purported vote was conducted in the Michigan state Capitol, where police actually didn’t allow the supposed electors inside. At least two former Trump campaign officials also recently got a subpoena originating with investigative efforts at the federal Justice Department evidently under the purview of Special Counsel Jack Smith that sought info on a long list of individuals and groups — including dozens and dozens who were involved in the effort to assemble the faked electoral votes.
