Trump Launches Saturday Mega-Rant Over DOJ Closing In

At a little before 5 a.m. on the East Coast this Saturday, former President Donald Trump was posting on Truth Social in anger over the ongoing Justice Department investigation into the ex-president’s handling of docs from his administration that were identified as classified.

“What Biden did was wrong, but he was given a reasonable and stable Special Counsel who is sane, inclined not to make waves, friendly with RINOS, and is not known as a flame-throwing lunatic or a Biden hater,” Donald insisted on Truth Social, his alternative social media platform. “What I did was RIGHT, Secured documents in a secured place, lock on the doors, guards and Secret Service all around, security cameras working. Mar-a-Lago is essentially an armed fort, and was built that way in the 1920’s, with High Walls & structure to serve as the Southern W.H.” The presence of… walls doesn’t mean he followed the law.

That investigation at the Justice Department into Trump’s handling of documents is led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, who despite his past working among recognized law enforcement authorities, including in the United States, Trump has apparently decided is some kind of raving lunatic. President Joe Biden is also facing scrutiny over documents identified as classified and found at a Delaware residence of his, and Trump seemed to claim Biden couldn’t have even declassified the materials at issue when serving as vice president, which is false — adding yet another falsity to the stream of nonsense in character for Trump.

The ex-president also insisted he acted apparently entirely in the right in his own handling of materials, talking as though there is some kind of recognized standard for the storage of classified documents at his southern Florida resort Mar-a-Lago, which is not accurate. In fact, an affidavit prepared in support of the FBI search conducted at the property featured an agent noting it didn’t appear the property met basic standards for storing such docs.

“I was President of the U.S. and covered and protected by the Presidential Records Act, which is not criminal and allows and encourages you to talk to the NARA, which we were, very nicely, until the FBI, who it is now learned has been after me for years without pause or question, RAIDED Mar-a-Lago, a stupid and probably Illegal thing to do,” Donald added, getting to some of the specifics of what are evidently his new defenses. “As President, I have the right to declassify documents, Biden did not.” In a later morning post, Trump seemed to suggest that putting someone under questioning for a day — not literally 24 hours, but just over the course of a day — is some kind of heinous and shocking act, even though it’s extremely standard. “They are GRILLING innocent people in Grand Juries for hours, all to “get Trump,”” Donald insisted, showing a staggering persecution complex for the umpteenth time.
