Former Vice President Mike Pence, the man Trump supporters erected a gallows pole to hang on the steps of the Capitol Building and yet has remained reluctant to criticize his ex-boss’s instigation of an insurrection has been subpoenaed by the special counsel in his probe of Donald Trump and the January 6 attack.
According to ABC News:
‘Former Vice President Mike Pence has been subpoenaed by the special counsel overseeing probes into former President Donald Trump, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. It’s not immediately clear what information the subpoena from special counsel Jack Smith is seeking, but it follows months of negotiations between federal prosecutors and Pence’s legal team.’
Smith was assigned the task of probing Trump’s involvement in the January 6th attack as well as his broader attempts to foment a coup and overturn a democratically-decided presidential election, including his involvement in coordinating a slate of fake electors and his phone calls to the Georgia secretary of state demanding that more votes be found in his favor in November by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
No other details have yet been released and Pence’s office has not responded to reporters’ requests for comments.
