Adam Kinzinger, the former GOP Congressman from Illinois who was among the only Republicans in Congressional office willing to go against Trump on key issues like the real-world integrity of the 2020 presidential election, joined those speaking out against Marjorie Taylor Greene this week.

The Georgia Republican Congresswoman posted on both her personal and official account on Twitter in support of the concept of a so-called national divorce, which is weird conservative lingo for breaking apart the United States, evidently because those like Greene behind the idea are refusing to even try to engage with Americans who might simply think differently than them and have a different perspective to offer. Instead, like with the attempt by Trump to secure another term in office despite losing to Joe Biden, they’re trying to metaphorically — or literally! — torch the system in a petulant rage. Asking for these people to actually do the jobs they wanted to hold and serve as a functioning member of the U.S. government is evidently too much for them.

“Could you [imagine] feeling the pressure to provide a new fresh outrage daily because your followers need a bigger and bigger anger dopamine hit?” Kinzinger asked in response to one of Greene’s posts. “In the old days a politician would be kicked out for opposing the [Union’s] survival.” He also replied to similar sentiments expressed from her other account on Twitter. “To be clear, the Union prevailing in the civil war settled this question,” the former Congressman, who also has a history in the military, said. “YOU HAVE NO RIGHT, or ability, to have a national divorce. This was settled. Your side lost.”

It’s notable for Greene to embrace this concept, considering that after the Capitol riot but before she won another term last year some tried to challenge her eligibility for office on the basis of Constitutional rules against those involved in insurrection holding government posts — restrictions that originate from the time of the Civil War, when some had ideas similar to Greene’s. “Impeach Biden or give us a national divorce,” Greene blabbered, evidently without checking her spelling. “We don’t pay taxes to fund foreign country’s wars who aren’t even NATO ally’s. We aren’t sending our sons & daughters to dies for foreign borders & foreign “democracy.” America is BROKE. Criminals & Cartels reign. And you’re a fool.” She was replying to a Biden post about a trip he made to Ukraine. There’s zero direct engagement in the war by American troops, making her rant about “sending our sons & daughters” odd and deceptive, and obviously, criminals and cartels haven’t somehow become in charge.
