Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), who took over as House Democratic leader as Nancy Pelosi and other established fixtures of party leadership in the legislative chamber stepped aside, criticized recent rhetoric from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) during a new show hosted by Jen Psaki, the former press secretary in the Biden administration.

The program is on MSNBC, and the top Democrat was specifically asked about recent claims from Greene that Trump’s potentially looming indictment, should it materialize, would actually benefit him politically as he makes another run for the White House. Jeffries said that, although Greene is not exactly credible, she still represents other threats to democratic stability in the possibility she spreads the articulated extremism to which she does adhere even further.

“The last person that I’m going to lean into political insight from is Marjorie Taylor Greene,” Jeffries remarked to Psaki on air. “Although I should note that she has become one of the most important House Republicans in the Congress and for all we know could be on the presidential ticket as the vice presidential candidate for Donald Trump. That is how important she has become to the extreme MAGA Republican House majority in the Congress right now. But that is also one of the reasons why the American people should be concerned, because it is an extreme agenda that doesn’t want to deal with the issues of importance to working families, and middle-class folks, and all those who aspire to be part of the middle class.”

Well, having Greene as Trump’s VP pick wouldn’t be great. The Georgia Congresswoman has distinguished herself by, among other moves, clamoring for military action against drug cartels operating in Mexico and talking about essentially breaking up the United States in a so-called national divorce. “The American people rejected political extremism all throughout the country in the most recent midterm elections in 2022, and it’s my expectation that they will continue to do so moving forward,” Jeffries continued when asked about specific options for preventing a case against Trump from ballooning into something demonstrably beneficial to the ex-president in political terms. The specific charges expected in the near future for Donald concern the hush money illegally provided to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election, a matter in connection to which Michael Cohen, a former ally to the ex-president, already faced charges from the feds.
