Marjorie Greene’s Gotcha Questions On Antifa Fail After She’s Confronted With Facts

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) remains very mad.

During a recent hearing of the House Homeland Security Committee, she repeatedly got into heated arguments with a witness named Amy Spitalnick, who is involved in non-profit work against extremism. In a later exchange, Greene questioned Spitalnick on left-wing violence, antagonistically asking her if she’d studied antifa. “No, I have not studied antifa,” she said. “But I am aware of the research that those who do study extremism across the spectrum [have] done that tells us that while, yes, on the Left there is oftentimes — to the extent left-wing violence exists, it tends to be focused on property damage and other acts along those lines. Whereas on the Right, for the most part, the violence tends to be manifesting in the sort of deadly mass acts of violence that we’ve been talking about here today.”

Greene subsequently began ranting about the supposedly serious threats from the property damage Spitalnick mentioned, but it’s difficult to deal with real-world issues associated with such a thing when Greene is so delusional in her characterizations of it. She spoke of instances where “the entire neighborhoods and area get set on fire night after night.” At least at the scale she means it, that’s not remotely a thing, Marjorie. “We cannot draw false equivalences between property damage and the death of people by mass shooters who are targeting them based on their race, their religion, or other characteristics,” Spitalnick added to Greene, who later began assertively ranting about details of a supposed incident around Atlanta that it doesn’t seem are conclusively confirmed.

Greene can’t just pretend as though far-right violence isn’t a thing, which is essentially what it seemed like she was trying to do. In that line of questioning, the Georgian didn’t even acknowledge the basic realities Spitalnick was trying to communicate. Though connections to an immediate motivation can sometimes be difficult to ascertain, individuals adhering to an evidently far-right mindset have perpetrated numerous deadly incidents, including the recent mass shooting at a mall in Allen, Texas, where young children were among those shot and killed. El Paso, Buffalo, Colorado Springs — right-wing attackers have a history!
