Gavin Newsom Publicly Flames ‘Space Laser’ Marjorie Greene For Being An Ignorant Bigot

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) for some reason recently felt as though there was an opening for her commentary on the issue of protections for LGBTQ+ Americans. Accordingly, she responded in dismissive terms to a statement of support posted on Twitter by California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom.

“No one is attacking the gay community Gavin,” Greene petulantly posted online. “They don’t want their children forcefully exposed to the radical side of pride with “tuck it” and “binding” children’s clothes and messaging while simply shopping at Target. We don’t support your California child genital mutilation industry. As a matter of fact, I want to end it.”

To be clear, there is not some kind of conspiracy-driven “industry” to mutilate the genitals of essentially any age group, which includes minors. Gender-affirming care is consistently supported by many, many major medical organizations, no matter Republican complaints. In addition, it is incorrect that there were “tuck it” clothes for children being sold at Target, where conservatives have recently focused some of their ire for daring to sell items oriented around LGBTQ+ pride.

“Are you the space laser person?” Newsom posted in a reply to Greene. While he was obviously just joking, and it’s not as though the post was some kind of elaborate explanation of why supporting LGBTQ+ rights shouldn’t be that difficult, he also has a point. When confronting some of these people, it’s perhaps best to understand that they’re not engaging in good faith. They’re clowns slinging rhetorical mud online. (Newsom’s joke was in reference to past interest from Greene in conspiracy theories about laser beams starting devastating forest fires.)
