Well, it looks like the Democratic nominee for president this year may turn out to be Kamala Harris, currently and since early 2021 the Vice President of the United States. Amid questions about his advanced age, President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he would be stepping back from the campaign, and he put his support behind Harris to take his place as the eventual Democratic pick.

Throughout Sunday, Harris accumulated endorsements and support from figures across the Democratic Party. Former President Donald Trump himself is now, by a long shot, the oldest major party presidential candidate in the race, assuming that the outpouring of support for Harris translates into her effectively locking down Democrats’ nomination.

“Senior Trump campaign advisor Jason Miller on NBC says that a major issue liability for @KamalaHarris is that “she wants to ban plastic straws.” Republicans are completely lost right now,” said Democratic pollster and strategist Matt McDermott on X, the social platform formerly called Twitter. “They’re seriously going for the plastic straw attack! Republicans are literally flailing for a message against Kamala Harris.”

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” Harris said in a post to the same platform that quickly went massively viral. And over the course of Sunday’s start of her presidential campaign’s rollout, ActBlue — a Democratic online fundraising platform — saw a tidal wave of donations for Harris’ bid for office, reportedly marking the biggest fundraising day on the site in its history.
