Denver Riggleman, a former Republican Congressman in Virginia who went on to assist with the investigative efforts of the House committee that examined January 6 and surrounding circumstances, is joining a slew of prominent Republicans to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris in her current bid for president.
Harris recently took over as Democrats’ torchbearer for this year’s presidential election after the withdrawal from that race of President Joe Biden, who endorsed her to replace him. Biden stepped aside after weeks of questions about his advanced age.
Riggleman posted a screenshot of a list of Republicans adding support to a new Harris campaign coalition: Republicans for Harris. “I’m on here. Yep I’ve seen the data from J6. Trump & his minions are dangerous. The same folks who pushed J6 push Project 2025. A 2nd Trump term would endanger US citizens— and create global chaos. Sanity should be the baseline. Criminals should be discounted,” Riggleman said on social media.
Other Republicans backing Harris once worked in the Trump White House, including former press secretary Stephanie Grisham and former Pence advisor Olivia Troye.
“As someone who served in the Trump White House, I witnessed the destruction & chaos firsthand. A second Trump term will bring more turmoil. As a lifelong Republican, I may not agree with Kamala Harris on everything, but I trust her to protect our freedoms, uphold the rule of law & provide steady leadership on the world stage. That’s why I’m voting for Kamala Harris. #RepublicansforHarris,” Troye posted on X, the site formerly called Twitter.
Harris, meanwhile, is expected to imminently be announcing her running mate for the 2024 election, with discussed possibilities including a handful of Democratic governors, Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), and current U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, who’s already known as outspoken on behalf of Democratic causes.
