Appearing this Sunday on CBS’ “Face The Nation” was United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain, who shared support — again — for Vice President Kamala Harris as the nation’s second-in-command now runs for president, recently locking down the Democratic Party’s 2024 nomination.

Fain’s auto workers union already endorsed Harris recently ahead of a planned Harris campaign jaunt to Michigan, both a center of the U.S. auto industry and an electoral swing state.

“We believe Democrats are going to win. And I will tell you, obviously, when Kamala Harris became the candidate, I mean, there’s a new energy around the campaign,” Fain said. “There’s new passion. We’re hearing from people that we weren’t hearing from before. And there’s a reason why, because they see a difference now. They see a path forward. And they see that we can have a better life than what we had under Trump. We don’t want to go backwards. And I believe we’re going to win Michigan. But we can’t just look at polling and say, hey, the polling has changed, it’s getting better, we got this. We got to keep the pedal to the metal until the end of this thing and ensure it happens.”

There was recently general election polling done in Michigan by Bloomberg and Morning Consult that found Harris a staggering 11-12 percentage points ahead of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in the state, depending on the precise slate of candidates presented to poll participants.

Harris, meanwhile, is apparently finalizing her selection of running mate for the year, with a new round of campaigning — including a return to Georgia, another recent swing state in presidential elections — planned with whoever ends up taking on that role. Discussed possibilities include a handful of governors, Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), and Pete Buttigieg, currently the U.S. Secretary of Transportation.
