Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump isn’t hitting the campaign trail much lately beyond a stop scheduled for Montana… which isn’t a swing state. The Trump campaign in general — spearheaded in part by running mate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) — is out there. But Trump’s in Florida, at least as of Thursday.
“Being president is about who you fight for,” said James Singer, a spokesperson for the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz presidential campaign. “Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are barnstorming swing states meeting with voters, fighting for the middle class, and earning every vote. Our campaign is centered around what unites America: opportunity, freedom, and love of country. Donald Trump is too lazy to fight for anything but himself or leave his country club — fine by us.”
Harris — currently the nation’s vice president — recently unveiled her choice for running mate for this year’s election: Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz. And in conjunction with that decision, she kicked off a seven state tour, visiting locales known as close in recent races for president starting with Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
Trump, meanwhile, held a widely panned press conference on Thursday in which he touched on familiar complaints and complained about Harris being at the front of the Democratic ticket at all, although it was President Joe Biden who decided to withdraw from this year’s election amid questions about his age and endorse Harris as a replacement. Despite claims and insinuations from Trump, Biden is very much still serving as president.
Trump will apparently be heading to a debate next month hosted by ABC News after all, despite initially turning his back on the previously scheduled gathering set for September 10 — which originated when Biden was still the expected Democratic nominee. Harris said that she’d still show up even if Trump didn’t.
