Vice President Kamala Harris — this year’s Democratic pick for president — visited Arizona this Friday night for another stop on her campaign sweep through seven battleground states, and attendance was huge.

“More than 15,000 people at Harris Walz rally in battle ground state of Arizona. In 25 years, I’ve never seen a Dem crowd this size,” wrote Arizonan journalist Brahm Resnik on social media on Friday. Democrats are fired up!

Arizona was close in the 2020 presidential election, ultimately going to then-candidate Joe Biden by a narrow margin before the state was then among the top targets of Trump and his circles as they clamored against Biden’s national win. The state saw further Democratic success in 2022, with party members winning the state’s races for governor and attorney general: key roles that allowed the development of, among other moves, a criminal investigation into the assembling of sham, pro-Trump electoral votes in the state after the 2020 election. Prosecutors brought charges.

In contrast, Trump visited Montana on Friday, spending time in a state that is reliably Republican in presidential elections. And apparently, he won’t seriously ramp up his appearances on the campaign trail until the end of this month, following the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) — though there is no serious uncertainty about who Democrats will actually be putting forward for this year’s election. In the meantime, Trump’s running mate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) is picking up some of the campaign trail slack.

“Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are barnstorming swing states meeting with voters, fighting for the middle class, and earning every vote. Our campaign is centered around what unites America: opportunity, freedom, and love of country. Donald Trump is too lazy to fight for anything but himself or leave his country club — fine by us,” said a spokesperson for Harris’ campaign.
