New polling from The New York Times and Siena College finds a large lead for Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic pick in this year’s presidential election, over Republican nominee Donald Trump among likely voters aged 65 and up across three swing states: Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Fifty-five percent of that group backed Harris, who recently took over for President Joe Biden at the head of the Democratic ticket, while only 42 percent sided with Trump. Nationally, exit polling from the 2020 presidential election found a lead for Trump with that age group of five percentage points, making these polling results a massive turnaround from that marker!

The new polling also found leads for Harris in each individual state (of those three) as a whole. In every one, the head-to-head match-up — meaning that just Harris and Trump were specifically named to poll participants — resulted in 50 percent for Harris and 46 percent for Trump.

She still led in each of the three states when candidates outside the two major parties were also included. All of the data includes respondents who indicated they were leaning towards one of the candidates in addition to those selecting the political contenders more decisively.

Harris campaigned just recently in all three of the states included in these New York Times/Siena numbers, including the swing states in her campaign trek through battleground states that has been accompanying the roll-out of her choice for running mate in this year’s election: Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz, who joined with Harris on the trail starting the very night of him joining the ticket becoming public. They kicked things off in Pennsylvania, where they were joined by the state’s Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro.

Harris blamed Trump for the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in her Pennsylvania speech.

“And as a result of his actions, today in America one out of three women live in a state with a Trump abortion ban — one out of three,” she said. “Well, Tim and I have a message for Trump and others who want to turn back the clock on our fundamental freedoms: We’re not going back.”
