At a recent campaign event in Arizona, Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in this year’s presidential election — Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz — ripped Trump.

“First and foremost — and be very clear about this — he doesn’t know the first thing about service,” Walz told the vocally supportive crowd, referring to Trump. “It’s hard to provide service when you’re too busy serving only yourself. Again and again and again, Donald Trump weakens our country to strengthen his own hands. You’ve watched him mock our laws. You watched him sow chaos and division at every opportunity. And that’s to say nothing of his record as president.”

Yet again, the crowd soon after that point began chanting “Lock him up!” referencing Trump.

“Better yet, beat the hell out of him at the ballot box,” Walz said, drawing applause. “Beat the hell out of him at the ballot box.”

Arizona was narrowly won by President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, reversing a lengthy streak of Republican victories in the state in presidential elections. Democrats have seen further electoral success there in the time since, including in the 2022 midterm elections, when Mark Kelly won a full term as Senator and Arizonans made a Democrat — Katie Hobbs — their governor, defeating Trump-aligned Republican Kari Lake.

Lake is now running for Senate in the state, with Arizona’s other seat on the ballot this year, but recent polling strongly suggests that she’s running into campaign trouble yet again in her face-off with Ruben Gallego, currently an Arizonan Democratic Congressman.

The campaign event featuring Harris and Walz in Arizona reportedly drew a very large crowd. “More than 15,000 people at Harris Walz rally in battle ground state of Arizona. In 25 years, I’ve never seen a Dem crowd this size,” wrote Arizonan journalist Brahm Resnik on social media.

Trump, meanwhile, hasn’t been on the campaign trail a whole lot lately, apparently planning instead to ramp up his appearances after the Democratic National Convention (DNC) concludes this month.
