This year, the Senate seat currently held by Republican incumbent Ted Cruz in Texas will be up for grabs, with Cruz seeking another term against Democratic opponent Colin Allred, who is currently a Congressman in the state.
“The Panhandle is the reddest part of Texas. But I drove up to Amarillo to campaign for @ColinAllredTX — and it was PACKED. Texas is ready to fire Ted Cruz,” Texas state legislator James Talarico, himself a Democrat, wrote on X (formerly called Twitter) on Monday of this week. He included an illustrative image.
Allred was also recently campaigning in Brownsville, which is in the state’s South, near Mexico.
“My family is from Brownsville. I spent summers here as a kid. The support of this community means the world to me, and together we are going to elect a Senator who fights for all of us,” Allred wrote online, also including an accompanying image.
Even if some of the areas he targets still end up with a local Republican majority in the final vote totals this November, statewide elections are just that — statewide. So ramping up Democratic support even marginally in still Republican-leaning areas can help facilitate a win.
On a similar note, a campaign event for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in Georgia’s heavily Republican Forsyth County already drew a lot of attention. Among the participants was Kentucky Democratic Governor Andy Beshear — himself a Democratic victor from a generally heavily Republican locale. Beshear won another term as governor against Trump-backed Republican candidate Daniel Cameron in 2023.
Some recent polling has suggested that another Democratic win in Georgia in this year’s presidential election is possible. New numbers from CNN and SSRS found Harris up in the state by one percentage point — not enough for a conclusive, sweeping generalization based just off the data but certainly sufficient to hand her the state if repeated in November.
