Liz Cheney Rips Apart Trump’s Running Mate’s BS: “This Is Illegal & Unconstitutional”

Former GOP Congresswoman Liz Cheney of Wyoming took to social media on Tuesday to condemn comments from Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), who is Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s running mate this year.

Cheney was responding to a clip in which Vance said that, if in Mike Pence’s position when the 2020 election results came up for Congressional certification in January 2021, he would have supported the idea of so-called alternate slates of electors… though they wouldn’t have had support in the law.

“Let’s be clear: This is illegal and unconstitutional. The American people had voted. The courts had ruled. The Electoral College had met and voted. The Governor in every state had certified the results and sent a legal slate of electors to the Congress to be counted. The Vice President has no constitutional authority to tell states to submit alternative slates of electors because his candidate lost. That is tyranny,” Cheney said.

She is also among the Republicans supporting Democratic presidential nominee and current Vice President Kamala Harris in this year’s race for the White House. A fellow Republican on the House committee that investigated the Capitol riot of early 2021, Adam Kinzinger, already announced his own support for Harris and spoke in her favor at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, which was held last month.

Meanwhile, Trump and Harris met on Tuesday night for their first debate of this election cycle — a little over a month after Harris took over for President Joe Biden in this year’s race for president. Trump, potentially feeling pressure from his performance at the ABC News-hosted event, is now expressing opposition to any more debates — characteristically insisting that he actually did well.

But Jon Ralston, a well-known political media figure from Nevada, spotlighted the opposite perspective.

“Biden gave one of the worst debate performances in history. Trump: Hold my beer,” Ralston posted to social media.
