On Tuesday, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and Republican pick Donald Trump met for their first debate of this election cycle, coming a little over a month after Harris took over for President Joe Biden following his withdrawal from this year’s race for the White House. And Trump was “incoherent,” a top official on the Harris campaign said afterwards.
The statement came from Harris-Walz Campaign Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon. “Donald Trump was totally incoherent,” she insisted.
“He was angry and rattled, and it all began when Vice President Harris held him accountable for his record overturning Roe v. Wade and harming women nationwide. […] And in case you missed it, through the countless lies he rattled off on stage tonight, Trump offered zero plan for the everyday needs of Americans, saying only he had “concepts” of a plan.” She went on to again tie Trump to the widely circulated — and extensively condemned — conservative policy agenda known as Project 2025, which is the work of conservative think tank/policy organization the Heritage Foundation.
And she also called for another debate between Harris and Trump ahead of the general election this November… a possibility towards which Trump is now expressing opposition, characteristically insisting that he actually did great on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s take on Trump in tandem with the debate was similar to the Harris-Walz campaign statement.
“With three words, the VP has summed up why Independents and even many Republicans are voting for her this time: “end the chaos,”” said a Tuesday post to X, formerly known as Twitter, from the Cabinet official. “He’s really doubling down on the crazy uncle vibe this evening,” Buttigieg added, referring to the Republican nominee.
And Harris got another boost this week with the endorsement of pop singer Taylor Swift.
