In an appearance this week on MSNBC, liberal commentator Jon Favreau assessed that Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris treated Donald Trump like a “disturbed” “old man” during the debate between the two hosted earlier this week by ABC News.
“She did not treat Donald Trump like he is the main character in American politics, which is how he’s been treated for the last nine years,” Favreau said on air. “She treated him as if he is an old man, disturbed, out in the middle of the street, yelling at cars. That’s how she treated him. And of course, that drove him even crazier. […] Then she was able to turn it to what matters to voters.”
Trump, meanwhile, keeps lashing out. He was posting to social media, insisting that he actually had a great debate, throughout the day on Wednesday, which was the day after the face-off.
“People are just starting to give me credit for having a GREAT DEBATE. The Voters and Voter Polls showed it, but the Fake News Media wasn’t giving the credit that was due. Now they are seeing the results with independent Voters, Evangelicals, and more – and saying, WOW! Remember, I wasn’t debating one person, I was debating three,” Trump claimed. That last bit was a complaint about the two moderators.
In actuality, there’s been a lot of the opposite perspective. In the Wall Street Journal, longtime conservative political figure Karl Rove argued that the debate was “a train wreck for him, far worse than anything Team Trump could have imagined.”
And Trump is throwing cold water on the prospect of any further debates with Harris, perhaps feeling the pressure of his actual performance that night, when he even brought up debunked conspiracy theories about Haitian immigrants in Ohio eating pets.
