Trump’s Debate Performance Against Harris Was “Devastating” For Him, Host Argues

Chris Wallace, formerly of Fox News but now associated with CNN, is among those ripping into Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s debate performance this week. Trump went up against Democratic pick and current Vice President Kamala Harris at a debate on Tuesday hosted by ABC News.

“I didn’t think I was ever going to witness a debate as devastating as the one that you and Dana [Bash] moderated back in June, where Joe Biden basically tanked his re-election campaign. I think tonight was just as devastating,” Wallace said on air with Jake Tapper.

“I think that Kamala Harris pitched a shutout on almost every subject I can think of. She shut Trump down on abortion. She shut Trump down on January 6th and democracy. She shut him down on national security and turned to the former president and said, ‘The military leaders who served with you think that you’re a disgrace.’ And then, as Dana mentioned, very powerfully at the end made the point that she is the candidate of change, and we need to turn the page from a decade of division and polarization.”

Characteristically, Trump keeps insisting that he actually excelled at the debate. He was posting to that effect on social media throughout the day on Wednesday.

“People are just starting to give me credit for having a GREAT DEBATE. The Voters and Voter Polls showed it, but the Fake News Media wasn’t giving the credit that was due. Now they are seeing the results with independent Voters, Evangelicals, and more – and saying, WOW! Remember, I wasn’t debating one person, I was debating three,” Trump insisted on Truth Social. That last portion was a complaint about the debate’s two moderators, who fact-checked him — unlike in June when facing Biden — a few times.
