A group of former staff members for the late Ronald Reagan has announced their support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in this year’s election. Seventeen individuals signed a letter to that effect that was publicized by CBS News.
“President Ronald Reagan famously spoke about a “Time for Choosing”. While he is not here to experience the current moment, we who worked for him in the White House, in the Administration, in campaigns and on his personal staff, know he would join us in supporting the Harris-Walz ticket,” they said. “The time for choosing we face today is a choice between integrity and demagoguery, and the choice must be Harris-Walz.”
It’s just the latest expression of Republican support for this year’s Democratic White House ticket. Harris was also endorsed by a coalition of hundreds who have worked for four Republican presidents and presidential nominees, including both Bushes, John McCain, and Mitt Romney. And she also received the support of a group of former White House lawyers in Republican presidential administrations, which included the Reagan team.
“We believe this election presents a binary choice, and Trump is utterly disqualified,” said that last group. They also called Trump “guilty of grave wrongdoing to our Constitution” and “unfit, dangerous, and detached from reality.”
Trump and Harris are fresh off their first — and possibly only — debate of this election cycle. In one widely circulated moment, Trump was asked if he has a specific health care plan to potentially replace Obamacare, and he said, well, no.
“I have concepts of a plan. I’m not president right now. But if we come up with something I would only change it if we come up with something better and less expensive. And there are concepts and options we have to do that,” he claimed from the stage.
