Joined by her brother and fellow musician Finneas, popular singer Billie Eilish shared an endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee and current Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday. Their endorsement came soon after an endorsement for Harris from fellow well-known musician Taylor Swift.
“We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet, and our democracy,” Eilish said in the video. “Vote like your life depends on it, because it does.”
The clip was shared on the occasion of National Voter Registration Day in the U.S., and Eilish and Finneas were also pushing for their viewers to ensure their voter registrations were in order, with Election Day just around the corner.
After only about an hour, a post on Eilish’s account on X (formerly Twitter) including the video was already seen about 1.8 million times. It was shared by a rapid response team that’s on Harris’ campaign.
Swift’s endorsement of Harris came after Republican nominee Donald Trump shared artificial intelligence-generated imagery on social media falsely saying that Swift was actually supporting him.
“Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth,” Swift said online.
Trump subsequently posted antagonistically towards Swift on social media. “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” he wrote on Truth Social, the Trump social media site, which continues struggling on the stock market. There was nothing else in the post from last Sunday.
