According to new polling from Yahoo News and YouGov conducted entirely after the televised general election debate last week hosted by ABC News, Democratic presidential nominee and current Vice President Kamala Harris is absolutely crushing Republican pick Donald Trump among younger voters.
The polling surveyed registered voters, and among registered voters specifically from the ages of 18 through 29, Harris nabbed 68 percent of the support, with Trump at just 27 percent. (These numbers come specifically from a version of the question that did not specifically name any presidential candidates outside the major parties.)
That means that Harris finished more than 40 percentage points ahead of Trump in this age group — which actually would improve massively on Joe Biden’s 2020 margin in that age bracket if replicated in November.
According to exit polling of the 2020 presidential election done by Edison Research and publicized by The New York Times, Biden’s lead in that age range was 24 percent.
In this new polling, Harris also led at the top level — meaning among all the registered voters included in the survey, hitting 50 percent of the support to Trump’s just 45 percent. Only three percent of respondents indicated that they were unsure.
In general, Harris has been doing better in general election polling than President Joe Biden was doing before he withdrew from the race in July, endorsing Harris to replace him.
Harris had no real problems fulfilling that, quickly assembling support from across the Democratic Party among both public figures and grassroots supporters. She unveiled her choice for running mate — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz — early last month, and the both of them have been consistently on the campaign trail ever since.
