As reported by CNN on Wednesday, President Joe Biden is again condemning comments from Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in the wake of the recent Hurricane Helene. The United States is also on track for an imminent impact from the massively powerful Hurricane Milton in Florida.

One of the claims from Trump was that federal authorities “stole” disaster relief money to use on undocumented immigrants, although a fact-checker for CNN noted that the two tranches of money were distinct, with no redirection — covert or otherwise — going on. Federal officials themselves also flatly denied the claims.

“The last few weeks, there’s been a reckless, irresponsible and relentless promotion of disinformation and outright lies,” Biden said, claims he said were “undermining confidence in the incredible rescue and recovery work that has already been taken and will continue to be taken, and it’s harmful to those who need help the most.” The president specifically singled out Trump himself and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), the latter of whom recently suggested it was perfectly plausible that authorities… or some other entity… were secretly orchestrating recent disastrous weather striking Americans.

Biden “specifically called out false claims that storm victims will receive a maximum of $750 in cash for recovery efforts,” according to CNN, which Biden termed “ridiculous.” Biden also observed that Greene “is now saying the federal government is literally controlling the weather,” which he described similarly.

Meanwhile, Milton is on track for a direct impact to Florida in coming hours, with severe weather already unfolding as the core of the storm continues approaching the state.
