After Fox & Friends ran a segment about Elijah Cummings, blaming him for a section of West Baltimore where poverty is as high as it is in areas of every single urban city in America, Trump spent his day on Twitter attacking Rep. Cummings and saying that he’s done nothing for “his district,” which Trump seems to believe is solely that impoverished Baltimore area.

Of course, that kind of poverty is not limited to urban cities with high populations of black and brown people. Appalachian communities in Kentucky and West Virginia has extremely high poverty levels. Of the 10 worst states for education, nine of them (Texas, Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Louisiana) are red states. The 10 states with the highest poverty levels (Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, South Carolina, Alabama, Kentucky, West Virginia, Louisiana, and New Mexico) are almost exclusively red, conservative states. Yet it’s Baltimore and Elijah Cummings that Trump is choosing to call out, not Mitch McConnell or Lindsey Graham.
It’s not difficult to pinpoint what the difference is between Graham and McConnell compared to Rep. Cummings, or the residents of Kentucky and South Carolina to the people of West Baltimore.
It’s also worth noting that the video Trump retweeted shows a single yard in the city. One yard is hardly representative of an entire district.
