The presidency of Donald Trump resulted in some unprecedented moments, but watching the downfall of his personal attorneys has added some unforgettable moments to that list, as well. Trump’s personal lawyers don’t tend to fare well legally – Roy Cohn was disbarred for corruption and Michael Cohen went to prison for crimes committed on Trump’s behalf, – and Trump latest lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, is following suit, having lost his law license in a state where he was once known as “America’s mayor” and now in Washington D.C., as well.

Like Cohen, Giuliani is also facing the consequences of actions he committed on behalf of Donald Trump, actions for which Cohen sat in jail and Giuliani’s career has been destroyed while Trump escapes justice time and again. His license was suspended in New York for lying in court on behalf of Trump, telling the “Big Lie” about the stolen 2020 presidential election, and D.C. won’t allow him to practice there while that case is pending.
According to POLITICO:
‘Giuliani, who has claimed rampant fraud during the 2020 presidential election, will be banned from practicing law in Washington at least until New York resolves his case, and possibly longer depending on how the District decides to proceed on the matter, the D.C. Court of Appeals ruled on Wednesday. A New York court suspended Giuliani from the New York bar on June 24 for his “false and misleading” statements on behalf of Trump and the 2020 election.’

Trump has insisted that Giuliani being forced to face up to his corruption in service to the ex-president is nothing more than “a witch hunt” just as he has when all the other witches, like Roger Stone and Paul Manafort, were carted off to jail. While Giuliani has not yet been charged with any crimes, he’s likely to if the history of Trump’s associates are any predictor of the future.
The Supreme Court of New York wrote in their decision that:
‘We conclude that there is uncontroverted evidence that respondent communicated demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign in connection with Trump’s failed effort at reelection in 2020.’

On his own behalf, Giuliani and his attorneys have argued that the suspensions are a violation of his first amendment right to lie if he so chooses, but the disciplinary board was having none of that argument, rejecting it outright.
‘This disciplinary proceeding concerns the professional restrictions imposed on respondent as an attorney to not knowingly misrepresent facts and make false statements in connection with his representation of a client. It is long recognized that ‘speech by an attorney is subject to greater regulation than speech by others.’
