Donald Trump has a highly placed handmaiden in the House, Devin Nunes (R-CA). The representative has run errands for the president in the middle of the night. He has also obeyed the commander-in-chief with a slavish loyalty.
Nunes is the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which gives him immense power, and he served on the Trump campaign. Supposedly, the representative recused himself for that reason, but he managed to run a shadow committee staffed with conservative Republicans.
The Intelligence committee was designed as a place for the House to investigate issues like Russia’s attack on the 2016 presidential elections and a potential conspiracy between Russia and the Trump campaign. It’s job, according to its web page, is:
‘HPSCI is charged with oversight of the United States Intelligence Community—which includes the intelligence and intelligence-related activities of the following seventeen elements of the U.S. Government—and the Military Intelligence Program. ‘
Gifted actor, Jim Carrey, is also a talented cartoonist. His latest rendering, depicted what Carrey thinks of the pandering people who surround Trump, especially Devin Nunes:
‘Every morning Trump makes special breakfast sandwiches for House Republicans. Devin Nunes eagerly finishes first and always asks for seconds!’
The California representative has subpoena power, and only he has it. Nunes refused to subpoena the records of many of the people the committee interviewed, much to the frustration of ranking member, Adam Schiff (D-CA). The ranking member told USA Today even back in February:
‘If this were a trial on the issue of did the Trump campaign conspire with the Russians to interfere or violate U.S. election laws by providing help to the Trump campaign, if this were a trial on that conspiracy charge…all of that evidence would come in as evidence of collusion.’
