There’s nothing that enrages Donald Trump more than being publicly exposed for failure. His trade war with allied countries like Canada, Mexico, and countries in the EU are not working out, not helping American business, and not helping the economy. In true Trump style, he will of course deflect and blame someone else for the loss. In this case, it’s Harley-Davidson’s fault.
First, Trump accused the company of lying about the reasons they were moving production overseas, saying that the decision was made long before the tariffs. Next, he “chided” them for being stupid and said they’d no longer be able to sell in the United States without being taxed out of business. Then, he did exactly the same thing Sarah Huckabee Sanders did when she used her official White House account to encourage customers not to patronize a particular business who asked her to leave their restaurant.
As Obama’s former ethics chief Walter Shaub said at that time:
“[It is a violation to use an] official govt account to condemn a private business for personal reasons. Seeks to coerce business by using her office to get public to pressure it.”
Not only is it a violation of ethics, how the tariffs are affecting businesses is also being criticized, even by Republican lawmakers.
.@SenSasse: “This will go over like a Vespa at Sturgis. The problem isn’t that Harley is unpatriotic – it’s that tariffs are stupid. They’re tax increases on Americans, they don’t work, and apparently we’re going to see more of this.” https://t.co/K0pd2lVYVM

Trump was warned not to do this. He was told repeatedly that this was a terrible idea. Now, he wants to blame the companies forced to take their business elsewhere due to the impact of these tariffs on their businesses. He will never, ever admit that he was just wrong.
Twitter reminded him how wrong he really was. Read some of their comments below:
