Former President Donald Trump is an unindicted co-conspirator in the Arizona criminal case hinging on the assembling in the state of a slate of sham electors following the 2020 presidential race who backed Trump despite Joe Biden actually winning in Arizona.
That case, though already known, recently shot back to the front of the national conversation as Arizona authorities finally managed to serve the last co-defendant with a copy of the indictment. That was avid Trump ally Rudy Giuliani, who was having a birthday celebration in Florida when the authorities arrived.
“In Arizona, and the United States, the people elected Joseph Biden as President on November 3, 2020. Unwilling to accept this fact, Defendants and unindicted coconspirators schemed to prevent the lawful transfer of the presidency to keep Unindicted Coconspirator 1 in office against the will of Arizona’s voters,” says a copy of the indictment previously published online, clearly referring to Trump. “This scheme would have deprived Arizona voters of their right to vote and have their votes counted.”
Later, the document refers to Trump as among “unindicted members of the conspiracy,” clearing alleging that he had some role in what transpired, even if the state’s authorities stopped short of actually criminally charging him.
Trump, in turn, is awaiting a decision from the U.S. Supreme Court on appeals in which he is claiming to hold wide-ranging presidential immunity that, according to him, should shut down a federal criminal case that he is currently facing. The case deals with Trump’s actions after the 2020 presidential election, and Trump claims that what he was doing was actually part of his responsibilities as president and for the benefit of the American people as he went after (imaginary) fraud. The court already heard in-person arguments, though Trump keeps beating the drum of his claims in public while campaigning for another four years as president.
