Donald Trump’s cronies who helped him plan and execute an attempted coup when supporters swarmed the Capitol Building armed with bear spray, flag poles, and a gallows pole seemed to believe that while the rioters they inspired would take all the legal consequences, they would just say “executive privilege” and walk away.
Turns out, that’s not how this is going to work.
A grand jury just indicted Steve Bannon for contempt of Congress.
Let this send a message to all those with knowledge of the attack on our democracy:
The days of defying subpoenas with impunity are over.
We will expose those responsible for Jan 6.
No one is above the law.

The twice-impeached ex-president who never won the popular vote hired a former Breitbart editor to run his presidential campaign and then installed him in the White House with the title of “chief strategist.” Federal courts gave him another title that included an inmate number, but Trump used his power as president to pardon him even after he defrauded Trump’s supporters.
After ignoring subpoenas from Congress to testify about the insurrection he helped get off the ground, Bannon may be taking up yet another title: star witness for the committee investigating Donald Trump. Once Congress gets to the truth of the matter, Bannon may also end up sitting in prison next to Trump.
In a statement about the indictments, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said that:
‘Since my first day in office, I have promised Justice Department employees that together we would show the American people by word and deed that the department adheres to the rule of law, follows the facts and the law and pursues equal justice under the law. Today’s charges reflect the department’s steadfast commitment to these principles.’
The news comes on the same day that Mark Meadows, Trump’s former chief of staff, also ignored congressional subpoenas.
