Ex-GOP State Chairman Insists That The Country Needs To Move On From Trump

In a new interview for “60 Minutes,” former chairman of Wisconsin’s Republican Party Andrew Hitt insisted that the United States needs to move on from Donald Trump.

Hitt was one of those in his state who signed onto a slate of sham electoral votes backing Trump after the 2020 presidential election despite Joe Biden winning Wisconsin. The effort mirrored similar undertakings in a slew of other states, which collectively have led to four state-level criminal cases so far. Hitt was asked by host Anderson Cooper what he’d say to Trump himself if the ex-president was watching the broadcast.

“I would say that this country needs to move forward,” Hitt said. “That we need a leader who tackles serious problems and serious issues that this country faces, and we need faith in our institutions again. And the next president of the United States needs to do that.”

“And in your opinion, that’s not [Trump]?” Cooper then asked. “That is not him,” Hitt replied.

Trump himself has been somewhat ensnared in the sham elector situation, with authorities in Arizona including him as an un-indicted co-conspirator in their case, which is the most recent of the four and named as defendants some prominent figures in Trump’s circles, including Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, and John Eastman, all of whom helped in some manner to advance the Trump team’s targeting of the 2020 presidential election outcome, meaning Biden’s duly documented electoral college victory.

There have already been some steep consequences for this coterie of political allies to Trump. The Board on Professional Responsibility at the DC Bar, which oversees lawyers, recently recommended Giuliani’s disbarment amid a disciplinary case stemming from his courtroom involvement in pro-Trump crusades after that election. Though the consequence would presumably only apply in the nation’s capital, it presumably could spur additional consequences elsewhere. Giuliani was already suspended from practice there and in New York.
