Trump’s Pick For Senate Is Losing In A Brand New Poll From A Closely Watched State

A new survey done in collaboration with the AARP finds a lead in Nevada for Sen. Jacky Rosen, the state’s incumbent Democrat seeking another term this year against a Republican challenger that it was recently decided would be Trump-endorsed veteran Sam Brown. The polling, done among likely voters, found Rosen with a five percentage point-lead.

Nevada is generally seen as close in electoral terms, and this same polling also found a lead for Donald Trump in the presidential contest as he and incumbent President Joe Biden head towards an expected electoral rematch this year, ahead of which the two of them will have their first debate this week. It will take place in Georgia, another closely observed state after Biden’s narrow victory there in 2020 that helped put him over the top in the electoral college.

Democrats are facing what is generally seen as a tough map of Senate elections this year, with the party defending seats in sometimes heavily GOP-leaning states including Ohio and Montana, though there have been some more bright spots in polling, like Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown leading Trump-aligned Republican challenger Bernie Moreno. Ohio’s Secretary of State, Republican Frank LaRose, tried running in the GOP Senate primary, but Moreno ultimately prevailed.

In the presidential race, polling paints a generally mixed picture. Even in the polls where Trump leads, his margins are frequently small, suggesting that the race later this year could turn out to be close. Trump’s many legal troubles have not significantly shaken off his support from Republicans, who remain on track to formally nominate him for president next month.
