GOP’s ‘Fake’ Biden Impeachment Inquiry Has ‘Imploded,’ Says Oversight Panel Member

House Republicans are still facing criticism for the sprawling investigation that some in their ranks launched contemplating a possible impeachment of incumbent President Joe Biden that’s yet to actually produce such a thing, though the chamber’s GOP majority did end up impeaching Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. The Senate, led by Democrats, declined the prospect of holding a lengthy trial on the move, widely decried as partisan.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.), an outspoken member of the House Oversight Committee, proclaimed the Biden inquiry’s implosion on Thursday via social media. He was responding to a clip in which Oversight panel chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) was bellyaching about supposed “deep state” activities. “Deep state” is a descriptor used — generally on the Right — to refer to sometimes ill-defined governmental forces and figures believed to be behind opposed developments.

“Comer is in a deep state of depression after his fake Biden Impeachment imploded,” said Moskowitz on X, the site formerly called Twitter.

The investigation is presently continuing, with — as before — a main focus the president’s son Hunter Biden, who was recently convicted by a jury of federal criminal allegations related to the obtaining of a personal firearm. House members eventually heard, actually, from the younger Biden himself, who appeared to be relatively forthcoming, meaning he actually answered their questions rather than stonewalling.

Republicans have repeatedly and consistently alleged favoritism in the justice system towards the Bidens and Democrats and against Trump and conservatives, though some questioned how that assessment held up after the president’s son was convicted.
