Speaker of the House Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) was among the many Americans paying attention this week to the debate held in Georgia between incumbent President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, and he was blasted with a call to resign after pro-Trump content went up on his official account on X, formerly Twitter.

“An objective truth that cannot be denied: Only one of the men on the stage tonight is qualified and capable of being elected President in 2024. This is the biggest mismatch in the history of presidential debates,” Johnson wrote.

“You’ve just broken the law against campaigning using resources of your office,” replied commentator Keith Olbermann. “Resign.”

“I know Mike is new to the whole Speaker thing, but as a former digital staffer let me just tell you – posting campaign content from an official account is a *huge* no no,” added someone on the platform identifying themselves as John Hicks, a former Capitol Hill staff member with Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.), who’s actually running for re-election this year.

“We’re doing ethics violations on main now,” quipped Aaron Fritschner, who works on staff with Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.).

Johnson is an avid Trump supporter, having even shown up to the former president’s recently concluded criminal trial in New York City where Trump was convicted by a jury on all counts after prosecutors alleged that he falsified a series of business records. The allegations were connected to hush money from before the 2016 presidential election for a woman named Stormy Daniels, who testified at trial, as did Michael Cohen, the former Trump ally who directly provided her with the money at the time and was prosecuted himself in another case. Trump’s sentencing is next month, just before Republicans are still on track to make him their nominee for president again.
