During a recent appearance on CNN, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) boldly predicted Donald Trump will be persona non grata — with nobody admitting they ever supported him — within a decade.

Kinzinger reacted to interviews conducted with Trump supporters who were asked about the hearings put on by the House committee investigating the Capitol riot, where Kinzinger serves. Two of the spotlighted Trump supporters insisted — with no apparent hesitation — that individuals associated with Black Lives Matter and Antifa were involved in the violence. There’s zero real-world evidence for the idea either movement had anything at all to do with what happened. It’s hundreds and hundreds of avid supporters of then-President Donald Trump who’ve been arrested. Kinzinger remarked as follows:

‘Facts are hard to digest, right? This is a very one-sided hearing process. It’s very one-sided. I’ll give ’em that. It has only been Republicans — mainly Republicans appointed by Donald Trump that have testified. We haven’t had a Democratic witness. Maybe one or two; I don’t know what their personal political affiliation is. But it is only Republicans coming in and testifying. They are being lied to and manipulated. They are told that somehow Nancy Pelosi or Muriel Bowser controls the National Guard. The only person with control of the D.C. National Guard, by the way, is the president of the United States… I firmly believe, in five or ten years, you will not find a single person in this country that will admit to ever having supported Donald Trump. He’s becoming a cancer, Trump is a cancer.’

Obviously, it makes sense for mostly Republicans to have testified — including, one could imagine Kinzinger means, in private — since it’s the presidential administration of Donald Trump that’s been a focus of the committee’s investigation. The panel will be holding further public hearings later this year, and its investigation is continuing. Check out Kinzinger’s comments below:

The news emerged this week that the Justice Department was asking questions of grand jury witnesses regarding actions Trump took after the last election — and that level of interest at the Justice Department in Trump on a personal level wasn’t previously known. As could be expected, the news drew angry reactions from the former president. “People forget, this is all about a Rigged and Stolen Election. But rather than go after the people that Rigged and Stole it, they go after the people that are seeking Honesty and Truth, and have Freedom of Speech, and many other defenses, on their side! Justice Department should look at The Crime of the Century. Evidence is massive and irrefutable!!!” Trump ranted on his alternative social media platform known as Truth Social this Wednesday.

Questions about Trump and actions he took were asked by prosecutors in reference to particular meetings held after the election, the then-president’s targeting of Pence, and the scheme to assemble faked electoral votes for Trump from states that Biden won. Obviously, there’s no clear indication at this stage that the department might ever pursue criminal charges against Trump, although Attorney General Merrick Garland has repeatedly insisted the department will not be hindered by political considerations in making its investigative decisions.
