It has been zero days since Trump brought up a crime by Hillary Clinton, deliberately misunderstood a story he doesn’t like (or understand) from CNN, bragged about Republicans winning their primaries, or accused President Obama of things that never happened.
In other words, it’s Wednesday.
It was just a matter of time after the more progressive Democratic candidate for governor in Florida, Andrew Gillum, became a target for Trump. He’ll push the same GOP talking points everyone else on the right tries to, and for Gillum, it will be crime. Jacksonville, Florida does have a high crime rate, but of course, that’s only a small part of the story. Trump isn’t really a big picture kind of guy.
What Trump and the GOP will never admit is that Florida has had nothing but Republican governors for the past 20 years and, as a result, now ranks 29th in education, 48th in healthcare, 38th in poverty levels, and has the 5th highest violent crime rate out of all 50 states. New leadership in the state of Florida can only be good.
Trump’s endless harping on the CNN story about Michael Cohen is still one of his favorite topics, although again, he misses the big picture. CNN has already responded to Trump and clarified their stance.
‘On July 26, citing sources with knowledge, CNN was first to report that Cohen, Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, claimed he was willing to tell special counsel Robert Mueller that then-candidate Trump knew in advance about the June 2016 meeting in Trump Tower. CNN said Cohen claimed he was present when Donald Trump Jr. told Trump about the Russians’ offer to share dirt on Hillary Clinton, and Trump gave approval for the meeting to take place.‘CNN stands by its story.‘A CNN spokeswoman said Tuesday: “We stand by our story, which had more than one source, and are confident in our reporting of it.”‘
