No matter how much the president wants to whine and complain, the fact remains that he’s not the only popular political figure in the United States. There are other important people in the world besides him.

One such figure, who has remained relevant despite the president’s attempts to make him fade into oblivion, is James Comey, who led the FBI until he was abruptly fired by the president last May. In the months since his firing, he’s proven to be a popular figure, in large part thanks to the fact that his firing brought Comey’s efforts to stand up to our wannabe totalitarian president into greater focus.

The former FBI Director has a book soon coming out; called A Higher Loyalty, its publisher recently announced that it was moving up its release date from May 1 to mid-April due to increased interest.

Now, there’s another piece of news to bring Comey back into the spotlight. In connection with the release of his book, the former FBI Director will be sitting down for an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in mid-April.

Both men confirmed the impending interview with statements posted to social media.

The ABC host wrote:

‘Looking forward to my exclusive interview with James Comey for the launch of his book “A Higher Loyalty” — pub date April 17.’

Comey replied to the host with a post of his own, writing:

‘Book is finished. I’m looking forward to sharing it with everyone and talking about it on ABC.’

The former FBI Director’s book and his appearance on ABC are set to provide a new perspective on issues that have gripped the United States since the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election.

Shortly before the election, Comey, as then-FBI Director, decided to notify Congress of his agency having found new material possibly relevant to the Clinton email scandal. That move has earned him widespread criticism for the perception that it swung the election towards Trump, since all of a sudden, the Clinton email scandal was fresh in voters’ minds again.

Comey also ended up being a key figure in the Russia scandal, since instead of the president allowing the Russia investigation to proceed unchecked, he fired Comey, who was leading the investigation before he was let go.

Comey’s firing led to the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who has so far brought charges against four former associates of the president.

In the aftermath of his firing, thanks in part to his eventual testimony to Congress, the nation was confronted with serious questions about the president’s actions, since Comey says that the commander-in-chief attempted to pressure him into winding down components of the Russia investigation.

The president has not taken serious steps to confront the issues raised by the investigation into Russian interference in our most recent presidential election, something you’d expect he’d do if he was innocent.

In light of all of these concurrent issues that Comey could be considered party to, BuzzFeed reports, based off the testimony of people “familiar with the matter,” that “no topic is off limits and the extended interview is likely to cover both Comey’s career and the recent controversies — ranging from Clinton to Trump to Russia.”
