While Donald Trump tries to convince everyone that he didn’t say what everyone has heard him say since he was elected and that it’s the “fake news media” going “crazy,” it seems it’s actually Trump himself who’s gone crazy, just as he does anytime he faces backlash.
Thursday’s Twitter rant was more “Russia good, allies bad” rhetoric from the president. Trump has denied for so long that Russian meddling took place during the 2016 presidential election, interspersed with moments where he said he agreed that it happened whenever he faced criticism for his trust in Putin over the U.S. government, that gaslighting the American people who support him has become easier than it ever was.
What’s true, however, is that the entire country heard him loud and clear both times he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and publicly accepted his denials of election meddling. While he can pretend now that he simply said the wrong word during his press conference with Putin and really meant to say that he believed the Russian dictator is lying, his messaging on that has been so inconsistent, and his lies on every subject so frequent, no one with any sense trusts him anymore. His credibility is long gone; all he can do now is shift blame and make insane, illiterate accusations against everyone else.
No one wants a war with Russia. No one really wants a war, period. What we do want, what everyone in this country should want, is a president who will stand up for our country while we’re under attack from a foreign adversary instead of bowing to the leader of that country and working to implement his agenda of destroying NATO and interfering with democracy all over the world.
