Senator and former vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine (D-VA) found that the Twitter rule that there really is a Trump tweet for every occasion is true. On Tuesday, Trump gave a speech at the United Nations General Assembly in which he rambled his way into one of his favorite sound bite quotes, telling diplomats and world leaders that “my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of this country.”
It was the wrong place for Trump’s braggadocio and exaggerations, and the room laughed out loud. While Americans are quite used to the president’s incredibly overinflated ego and habit of ignoring the truth, foreign diplomats and world leaders in attendance at the UN meeting know Trump’s record. They’re not a Twitter audience Trump can impress with lies.
Sen. Kaine found this tweet from August 2014 when Trump, a year before he announced his candidacy for president, once again bashed President Obama on social media.
Oh behalf of all Americans, Kaine gracefully agreed that this is a wonderful idea today.
The laughter at the current American president was both amusing, as it matches the reaction so many of us have to Trump’s idiocy, but it’s also a truly humiliating moment for the United States. Once a highly-respected country, the election of Donald Trump has reduced our government to a laughingstock while the reality TV game show host spews nonsense conspiracies, his lack of comprehension of economic and trade policies, and brags about accomplishments that people with sense know are ridiculous.
