It seems like just basic human dignity would prevent one from making disparaging political comments about the deceased, but basic human dignity doesn’t seem to be anywhere within Donald Trump’s repertoire. On Saturday, he tweeted insults at the late senator from Arizona over his decision to turn the Steele dossier over to the FBI and standing against Trump on repealing the Affordable Care Act.
Sen. McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain of The View, was quick to answer Trump’s lack of class.
McCain turned the Steele dossier over to the FBI because he knew that was the legal and ethical thing to do. Imagine if a dossier of that nature had been compiled by foreign intelligence officials and a Democratic senator buried it.
He stood against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act for several reasons, none of which were so petty as to be about spiting Trump. He believed that the process that had brought the bill to the floor was improper. No debate or discussion had been allowed, and McCain believed that was wrong. He stood against the divisiveness between the political parties and he stood up for his constituents and their right to healthcare.
That Trump is still whining about McCain’s refusal to toe the party line is telling. Trump knows that 2020 is coming and that he’ll have to answer for all his broken 2016 promises. He didn’t repeal the ACA “on day one.” He didn’t build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. He didn’t lock Hillary Clinton up. He moved to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits.
Twitter was in full support of McCain and her rebuke of Trump. Read some of their comments below:
