The presidency would be so much easier for Donald Trump if it just weren’t for that pesky Constitution and its requirements regarding checks and balances. If Trump just didn’t have to work with Congress or allow voters to decide anything, that border wall between Mexico and the United States would already have been built, the lands it would be built on would already have been stolen from its owners, and the military would already be at war with Mexico until they paid for all of it.
The United States doesn’t “lose money” with Mexico. We would, however, lose hundreds of billions with a closed border. Trade would be interrupted. Farming and manufacturing would be the hardest hit. Our country would also lose the $11.6 billion dollars per year that undocumented immigrant workers pay in taxes.
MSN says it would be even worse than that:
‘Sealing the entire border between the countries, meanwhile, would cause economic chaos. In 2017, about $558 billion in goods flowed across the U.S.- Mexico border in both directions, making Mexico our third-biggest trading partner for goods behind Canada and China. U.S. goods exported to Mexico totaled $243.3 billion, while trade in services accounted for another $58 billion.’
Trump and his supporters aren’t hearing it. Despite the fact that the majority of the country doesn’t want to pay for a border wall, they’re demanding that it be done by their Dear Leader, Congress, and the American voting public, be damned.
