Tonight, after a hard-fought battle to replace Senator Guy Reschenthaler (R), who resigned to take a House seat this past November, a Democratic Navy veteran who served in President George W. Bush’s Department of Veterans Affairs, won a state Senate seat in Pittsburgh, PA, in a district won overwhelmingly by Trump in 2016.

Pam Iovino beat Republican businessman D. Raja, and will take over representation of the state Senate district that covers parts of Allegheny and Washington counties.

The results are very important and could be a major preview of what Trump may expect during the election in 2020, if he still plans to run by then…

Iovino told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

‘The district is being watched because it voted overwhelmingly for the president in 2016, so we’ll see how strong that foothold is.’

This is the first seat in 2019 to flip from Republican to Democrat. Let’s hope it won’t be the last!
